Former NBA coach David Fizdale has been named the new head coach of the Nigeria men’s national basketball team, according to ESPN Andscape.

Currently an NBA TV analyst, Fizdale will attempt to lead Nigeria to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, his hometown.

“It will be fun and exciting calling timeouts and drawing plays up again as a head coach,” Fizdale said. “It will be good to get back in that mindset of preparation and motivation.”

He also admitted that helping Nigeria qualify for the Olympics in Los Angeles would carry special personal meaning for him and his family.

Fizdale previously coached the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks, while most recently serving as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns.
