AS Monaco heads into Tuesday’s Game 3 against Olympiacos Piraeus without two starters, a major blow for a team that already trails 2-0 in the EuroLeague Playoffs. Alpha Diallo and Daniel Theis are set to miss the do-or-die game at home, the team announced.
Diallo has been one of Monaco’s most important two-way pieces this series. The 2025-26 EuroLeague Best Defender award winner averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in Games 1 and 2, giving Monaco a needed edge on both ends.
Theis was also a key frontcourt presence before his injury limited him sharply in Game 2. He posted 6 points and 6 rebounds in Game 1, then played just 2:25 in the second game.
Monaco’s injury problems do not stop there, either. Nikola Mirotic has yet to play in the series because of injury and also did not feature in the French League this past weekend.
That leaves Monaco facing an uphill battle after Olympiacos delivered a statement in Game 2, rolling to a 94-64 win at Peace and Friendship Stadium. The Greek side controlled the game early and never allowed Monaco to settle in.
Thomas Walkup set the tone with 10 points and three made 3-pointers as Olympiacos jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Sasha Vezenkov led the way with 21 points, while Evan Fournier added 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds in just over 20 minutes.
The defensive numbers were just as striking. Olympiacos held Monaco to 8 points in the second quarter, then built a 59-31 halftime lead, and the visitors finished with no player scoring more than 11 points.
Olympiacos also won the glass 43-29, shot 64.5% from two-point range and 39.5% from three, while Monaco hit just 20.0% from deep. Mike James’ ejection after a double technical foul before halftime only made the margin wider.
The top-seeded Greek club now carries a 13-game home winning streak in Piraeus into the series’ next phase. Monaco, meanwhile, must find production without Diallo and Theis if it wants to keep the matchup alive.
