Austin Reaves provided a detailed update on his condition during Tuesday’s practice interview ahead of Game 5 of the Western Conference first-round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.

The Lakers guard, listed as questionable, described the team’s position clearly while focusing on the opportunity in front of them. “We’re in a good spot. 3-1 back at home. We got a good opportunity tomorrow,” he said.

Reaves emphasized that his availability remains uncertain and tied directly to his physical response. “Just how my body feels,” he said.

He added that the decision process is shared across the organization. “Everybody’s on the same page here. Everything from the get-go has been a group effort,” Reaves said.

The guard also explained the team’s cautious approach regarding reintegration. “The main thing is to get me back out there as fast as I can without putting myself at risk to reinjure myself,” he said.

Reaves referenced his conversations with head coach JJ Redick about readiness and confidence. “You have to be comfortable with your body and what you can do to go out there and help us be successful,” he said.

Despite the injury concern, Reaves stated his intent to return quickly. “I want to get out there as fast as I can. But like I said, I feel good and trending in the right direction,” he said.

He also addressed the uncertainty of pain management during recovery. “I’m bad at feeling pain, so when I do feel it, it’s not good. Just trying to battle through it every day,” Reaves said.

Reaves reflected on the moment the injury was confirmed, recalling frustration tied to timing. “Super frustrated obviously, just got the bad news. We were playing well as a team,” he said.

The Lakers guard credited the group response after setbacks to both himself and Luka Doncic. “The message from that day forward was we’re going to do everything as a team to give us an opportunity to come back and play,” Reaves said.

He also acknowledged the difficulty of being sidelined during a playoff run. “Been pretty miserable. Just not having some control on a game,” he said. “Sitting over there with no hope that I can affect the game.”

Even while inactive, Reaves has focused on preparation and conditioning. “I’ve done everything I can do to be in good condition, be in somewhat of a rhythm,” he said.

Looking at the broader team performance, Reaves highlighted the Lakers’ response in the series. “It’s been a lot of fun. Just seeing the determination, the togetherness,” he said. “Competing every single possession.”

The Lakers enter Game 5 holding a 3-1 series lead, with the Rockets dealing with multiple injuries including Kevin Durant, Fred VanVleet, and Steven Adams. Los Angeles will also monitor Luka Doncic, who remains out with a left hamstring strain.

Reaves’ status will be finalized closer to tipoff at Crypto.com Arena, with both sides expected to continue evaluating late availability based on recovery progress.

With the series on the line, Reaves’ potential return remains a key variable as the Lakers look to close out Houston and advance.
