After losing Game 1 at home against the Orlando Magic, the Detroit Pistons again had trouble finding an offensive rhythm early in Game 2.
That changed after halftime, sparked in part by an intense message from head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, as reported by ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.
“He really got on us in the locker room,” forward Tobias Harris said. “[His message was] there is no more of ‘my bads.’ It’s like they’re out there hustling, getting offensive boards on us. And there’s too many of them for us [to allow] as a group. We know that’s not our standard.”
Bickerstaff was impressed with how his players answered, as the Pistons erupted for a 30-3 run driven by improved shooting and aggressive defense.
“That’s us,” said Isaiah Stewart, who contributed 10 points and two blocks. “That’s what we were talking about. If we just be who we are, who we’ve been all season long, we’d be just fine.”
