Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future remains one of the NBA’s central storylines, and a new report has identified the Phoenix Suns as a preferred destination.

Suns writer Felix Cruz reported on Wednesday that “Giannis absolutely wants to be in Phoenix and is a preferred destination,” citing the presence of Devin Booker, owner Mat Ishbia, and the team’s long-term direction.

Cruz added context to the situation, stating, “That said, I don’t believe the Suns will blow things on an all-in move. Would have to make sense! They love the situation they are in.”

Suns insider John Gambadoro denied the report though, claiming that there have been ‘zero discussion’ about the Greek superstar.

The update comes after a turbulent 2025-26 season for Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, who finished 32-50 and missed the playoffs.

The 31-year-old forward completed the first year of a three-year, $175 million deal but has not committed to a long-term extension, with reports indicating he declined a potential $275 million offer.

Trade discussions were active during the season, with Milwaukee evaluating offers from multiple teams but ultimately holding onto its franchise player through the deadline.

On the court, Antetokounmpo remained highly productive, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 62.4% from the field.

Those numbers reinforce his role as a primary offensive engine who generates efficient scoring in the paint while facilitating for teammates.

Phoenix presents a different basketball context, built around spacing, perimeter shooting, and multiple secondary playmakers.

The Suns’ roster includes high-volume guards and floor-spacing bigs, which could create driving lanes and transition opportunities aligned with Antetokounmpo’s strengths.

However, roster construction remains a key variable, as acquiring a high-usage star typically requires significant asset movement.

Cruz’s report suggests Phoenix is not inclined to disrupt its current core unless a deal aligns with both competitive and financial priorities.

Earlier in the season, the relationship between the player and franchise showed signs of strain, including reported trade requests and disagreements over injury management.

Despite those developments, Antetokounmpo has maintained a professional approach publicly, focusing on performance and team responsibilities.

With the offseason approaching, league-wide attention will center on whether discussions escalate into formal trade negotiations.

Phoenix’s emergence as a preferred destination adds a new dimension to that process, but any move will depend on alignment between both organizations.

For now, Antetokounmpo’s situation remains fluid, with multiple pathways still in play as the NBA calendar shifts toward the offseason.
