The Golden State Warriors are heading into a high-pressure, do-or-die matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers in Wednesday’s play-in tournament, but managing player workloads will be a key factor for Steve Kerr.
According to ESPN, Stephen Curry, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford are all expected to stay under 40 minutes despite the must-win nature of the game.
Each of them missed time during the second half of the season due to injuries or illness, which remains a consideration for the coaching staff.
ESPN’s Anthony Slater pointed out that Curry has been gradually ramping up his minutes since returning from a knee injury, logging 26, 25, 27 and 29 minutes in his last four appearances.
Slater anticipates that Curry will likely be limited to around 34 minutes in this crucial contest.
Even with those restrictions, Curry is confident the team can still keep its season alive, as noted by Janie McCauley of The Associated Press.
“I love playing basketball,” he said. “It’s what I get paid to do. … Our season’s been different than we expected, but the fact that there is something to still play for gives all of us a lot of confidence down the stretch to make something out it, and I want to be a part of that.”
