Mike D’Antoni to be inducted into Hall of Fame

Mike D’Antoni is set to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7.

He was previously named a finalist in February and will be honored in the contributor category.

Though he briefly played in the NBA during the 1970s, D’Antoni is best known for his coaching career, particularly his time with the “seven seconds or less” Phoenix Suns from 2003 to 2008.

During that stretch, the Suns posted a 253-136 record and reached the Western Conference finals in both 2005 and 2006.

He also had a highly successful stint with the Houston Rockets, leading them to a 217-101 record over four seasons.

Houston came closest to a title in 2018, falling to Golden State in a seven-game Western Conference finals.

D’Antoni’s tenures with the Nuggets, Knicks, and Lakers were less successful, but he still finished with a 672-527 regular season record and a 54-56 playoff mark across 16 seasons.

In addition to his NBA work, D’Antoni coached in Italy, served as an assistant with multiple NBA teams, and contributed to Team USA, winning a bronze medal in 2006 and a gold medal in 2012.

He is expected to be inducted alongside Amar’e Stoudemire, as well as Doc Rivers, Candace Parker, and Elena Delle Donne.
