Naz Reid shows signs of breaking slump

Despite a loss in Detroit on Thursday, the Timberwolves saw encouraging signs from Naz Reid, who may be emerging from a recent slump, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Reid finished with 16 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes, hitting 4-of-9 from three-point range as Minnesota stayed competitive against one of the league’s top teams.

“I’m dealing with some injuries and just trying to make things happen,” Reid said. “Just trying to compete at a high level and do what I can do.”

The 2024 Sixth Man of the Year has been a key contributor off the bench, but his production had dipped significantly in recent games.

Over his previous 14 contests, Reid had been shooting just 21% from beyond the arc and rarely impacting the glass.

Krawczynski noted that Reid appeared frustrated earlier in the week, particularly during a game in Dallas where his energy and defensive effort seemed off.

However, a late push from teammate Ayo Dosunmu to involve him offensively may have helped shift his momentum.

Head coach Chris Finch pointed to Reid’s all-around activity as a positive step forward.

“I thought he was really good defensively and active on the glass. … I thought he was really active, especially in that second quarter,” Finch said. “As it is, then he started making shots.”
