Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason reflected on the players who shaped his basketball journey in a recent conversation with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. Eason highlighted LeBron James as his earliest inspiration, recalling a vivid childhood memory of watching James take off from the free throw line.
“I’m like, ‘Who’s that?’” Eason said, describing the moment he first recognized James’ impact on the game. He credited his mother’s involvement in basketball as another early influence, saying the sport has always been part of his life.
Eason also discussed his time at the University of Cincinnati, acknowledging the school’s historic basketball program. He mentioned Kenyon Martin and Sean Kilpatrick as notable figures he admired, though he admitted he did not personally interact with them. “You go where you’re wanted,” he said regarding his college choice.
Growing up, Eason was also drawn to Kevin Durant, noting the cultural significance of Durant’s presence in youth basketball. “All the kids in the ‘hood had his shoes — his Nike Elite socks went triple, triple TRIPLE platinum with the youth,” he said.
Now in his fourth NBA season, Eason has developed into a versatile forward for the Rockets. This season, he is averaging 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 36.9% from three-point range and 73.1% from the free-throw line over 50 games with 32 starts. His consistent production complements teammates like Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, and Amen Thompson, who lead the Rockets in scoring and playmaking.
Eason’s playing style reflects the competitive edge he attributes to family and his personal drive. He described his primary motivation as providing for his family and maximizing opportunities in the league. His blend of defensive intensity, rebounding, and scoring versatility has made him a reliable rotation player for Houston in the 2025-26 campaign, where the team currently holds a 43-29 record, sitting sixth in the Western Conference.
