The FIBA U18 European Championships, scheduled to take place in Samsun, Turkey has been postponed indefinitely amid political unrest in the country.

The tournament was due to take place on July 30 on the north side of the country but as FIBA detailed, many of the national federations have expressed huge concerns after the attempted but failed coup attempt in Istanbul.

The Committee has tasked the Secretariat of FIBA Europe to explore options to play the tournament either at the end of the calendar year 2016 or at the beginning of 2017 at the latest. The eligibility of the current national team members will not be affected.

The Committee has also reiterated its support to the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) who has repeatedly, as well as on this occasion, shown a great degree of competence and excellent organisational skills.
