Tyronn Lue stressed the importance of defensive focus following the Clippers’ 138-131 overtime victory at Dallas. “Desperate times called for desperate measures… I thought we got stops and then we executed offense,” he said.

Lue admitted the team struggled early, giving up 42 points in the first quarter. “We got to make our mind up, we want to be a defensive playing team… that’s what we got to do to start games,” he said.

He emphasized consistency over 48 minutes as key to team success. “It’s got to be 48 minutes… turning teams over, guarding teams, rebounding the basketball, that’s when we’re at our best offensively as well,” Lue said.

The coach highlighted the Clippers’ strong second-half surge. “We could sense urgency on the court… we should have had that to start the game, but this was a great win for us,” he said.

Lue addressed the challenges of managing Kris Dunn minutes. “We can’t run KD into the ground… he’s the only player that’s played all the games this year… other guys just have to step up,” he explained.

He also spoke on defensive identity and mindset. “We can’t ease in games… we got to be good from the start… just getting back to that mentality,” Lue said.

Discussing adjustments when stars rest, he noted, “We just got to figure out… what units are better when each guy’s off the floor.” Lue credited Derrick Jones Jr. for improved shooting and confidence. “The most important thing is his three-point shot has really improved… catching and shooting quick,” he said.

Regarding team mindset, Lue stressed resilience. “Getting a win tonight… getting the monkey off our back was huge… we can’t fall victim because of injuries or the schedule,” he said.

He praised Garland’s aggressive play in the win. “If he’s aggressive, that opens up his passing… he had a great example of that tonight,” Lue said. He also celebrated the recognition of past players, noting, “Jamal… is an elite scorer… it’s going to happen for him one day.”

Garland led Los Angeles with a season-high 41 points, including eight 3-pointers and 11 assists, while Kawhi Leonard added 34 points and a late tying basket. Derrick Jones Jr. contributed 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists, helping the Clippers dominate overtime.

Los Angeles shot 57% overall and 50% from three-point range while producing 33 assists on 51 made baskets. The win lifted the Clippers to 35-36, tying the Portland Trail Blazers for eighth in the Western Conference.
