The Detroit Pistons have already had a recent stretch of games without Isaiah Stewart, and that experience may become important again moving forward.

Stewart is now expected to miss time after being diagnosed with a left calf strain, and the team has ruled him out indefinitely while he works toward recovery.

Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff explained that the priority is making sure Stewart gets fully healthy rather than rushing him back.

“It’s something he’s been dealing with. It just had been getting worse. He gutted it out last game and I think you could see he was favoring it late,” Bickerstaff said of Stewart. “It’s something we’re going to take time with.”

As of Sunday’s games, Detroit sits comfortably at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 4.5 game advantage over the Boston Celtics.

That lead gives the Pistons some breathing room, which should allow the team to be patient with Stewart’s recovery process and ensure the injury doesn’t continue to bother him heading into the postseason.
