Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo voiced clear frustration with the officiating after Miami’s loss to the Orlando Magic on Saturday night.

Following the game, the big man argued that the referees “altered the game” through several decisions made during key moments.

Adebayo specifically pointed to a late-game sequence in which the Magic were holding onto a narrow two-point lead.

The Heat believed Orlando should have been penalized for a five-second inbound violation but no whistle came.

Earlier in the game, however, Miami had been called for the same violation, and players felt that the count was rushed and enforced too quickly.

“That’s what’s frustrating about it, because we get fined if we say something about it,” Adebayo said. “But that altered the game. When you alter the game, you should have to, like, stand on that.

“Because when we mess up, when we make mistakes, when we miss stuff, all hell breaks loose on us. We got people blaming us for everything. And then on the other side, I felt like they had a five-second call that wasn’t called. That altered the game.”

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra also shared a similar view regarding the timing of the call against his team.

While he noted that he had not yet reviewed the exact mechanics of the play, Spoelstra said his initial impression from the bench was that the whistle came unusually fast.

“I haven’t gone through the mechanics of it right now, but it felt like a quick five,” the coach said.
