Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra pushed back at criticism surrounding Bam Adebayo’s 83-point performance on Tuesday, making it clear he has no regrets about how the game played out.
The outing drew backlash from some observers who questioned the “ethical” nature of how Adebayo accumulated his points, particularly after Miami intentionally fouled Wizards players late in the game despite holding a large lead.
Ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Bucks, Spoelstra dismissed the criticism.
“I apologize to absolutely no one, period,” Spo said, adding that many critics likely didn’t watch the full game and that was the truly “unethical” part.
Adebayo finished with 7-of-22 shooting from three-point range, went 36-of-43 at the free-throw line and shot 20-of-43 overall while playing 42 minutes against Washington.
Some coaches were skeptical about the performance.
Rockets coach Ime Udoka pointed to the high number of free throws and the Wizards’ struggles this season as factors, while Lakers coach JJ Redick called it a “different” style of basketball.
