The NBA’s investigation into claims that the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard may have used a no-show endorsement arrangement with fintech company Aspiration to bypass salary cap rules has been ongoing since September.

The issue first came to light during the offseason through reporting by podcaster Pablo Torre, who has continued to uncover additional details as the situation develops.

According to Mike Vornukov of The Athletic, Torre recently discovered that a whistleblower complaint was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2023.

The complaint alleges that Aspiration improperly used company funds in a way that helped the Clippers work around salary cap limitations in order to provide Leonard with what was described as “an incentivized bonus.”
