The Memphis Grizzlies have signed Tyler Burton to a 10-day hardship exception, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. The move adds depth to a roster dealing with multiple injuries across the backcourt and frontcourt.

Scotto reported the signing on March 12, noting Burton’s strong production in the NBA G League with the Memphis Hustle. The wing has averaged 19.7 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range with the affiliate.

Burton has also contributed across the stat sheet in the G League. His averages include 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals, numbers that highlight two-way activity and perimeter scoring.

In 14 games with the Hustle this season, the 26-year-old has averaged 17.9 points in 30.7 minutes. He has also shot 37.3 percent from three-point range and 90.5 percent from the free throw line.

The signing comes as Memphis continues to deal with a depleted roster. Several rotation players are unavailable or listed as doubtful ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.

Ja Morant remains out with discomfort in his left elbow and will be reevaluated by team medical staff. The point guard averages 19.5 points and 8.1 assists in 20 games this season.

The backcourt is also impacted by other injuries. Scotty Pippen Jr. is out with a toe injury, while Ty Jerome is listed as doubtful due to a calf issue after averaging 20.0 points in 11 games.

Cam Spencer is questionable with a back injury, and Cedric Coward is doubtful with a knee issue. Coward has been a regular part of the rotation with averages of 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Memphis has also lost frontcourt depth. Zach Edey has been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury after averaging 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds in 11 games.

Santi Aldama is also unavailable with a knee injury, removing a forward who averages 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 appearances.

With multiple rotation players sidelined, the hardship exception allowed Memphis to temporarily add Burton. The NBA grants the exception when teams fall below the minimum available player threshold because of injuries.
