After opening the season with one of the league’s worst records among teams expected to compete for the playoffs, the Los Angeles Clippers have managed to recover and bring their record back to .500 ahead of Wednesday’s game against Minnesota.

Although a 32-32 mark isn’t exactly where the team hoped to be at this stage, it represents significant progress considering their difficult start, Law Murray of The Athletic writes.

Head coach Ty Lue praised both his players and coaching staff for staying focused and continuing to work despite the early struggles.

“This team, ever since I’ve been here for six years, our guys always continue to keep fighting when our backs’ against the wall,” Lue said.

“And I credit all my coaching staff, just for doing a great job, like I said earlier. Just staying with it, being positive, continue to help these guys get better. And you know, to start 6-21 and be .500 right now, it’s a big thing for us.”

Kawhi Leonard has played a major role in the team’s turnaround, but he understands that the progress will ultimately matter only if the Clippers are ready to compete once the playoffs begin.
