Bam Adebayo’s high-level influence on the Miami Heat is becoming impossible to overlook, Ira Winderman writes for the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Using statistical evidence to support Adebayo’s star case, Winderman points out that the big man ranks second in the NBA in on/off differential – trailing only Nikola Jokic among players with at least 1,500 minutes played.

He also highlights Miami’s defensive dominance, noting the team has produced a 99.7 defensive rating with Adebayo on the floor since early February.

With Miami gaining momentum, Winderman suggests individual recognition could follow for the big man.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra shares that view, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports, saying Spoelstra believes continued team success could narrow the Defensive Player of the Year race to just two candidates: Adebayo and Victor Wembanyama.

Although Miami still has work ahead to lock in a playoff berth, Winderman observes that the team is playing with visible confidence and enjoyment.

“You can sense that our locker room is trying to seize the moment right now,” Spoelstra said. “We’re having a lot of fun competing with each other and playing to a consistent identity on both ends.”
