James Harden reached a historic milestone Monday, scoring 21 points to become the ninth player in NBA history to surpass 29,000 career points. “All glory to God, but it’s a testament of the work I put in over these many years,” Harden said. “The Cavs give me an opportunity to showcase my game, so I’m grateful.”
Harden described Monday’s matchup against the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers as a chance to bounce back. “Just a bounceback game. Last night was a little frustrating, but we got our swag back,” he said.
He praised Keon Ellis for his contributions off the bench. “Amazing, especially on the defensive end. Offensively, he made some threes, had some ones tonight, but defensively is where he impacts the game and he’s done that consistently,” Harden said. Ellis scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half, helping Cleveland build multiple double-digit leads.
Harden emphasized areas for team improvement on the road. “Just the highest chemistry we can get to, physicality defensively, and being consistent every single night, which we’re definitely capable of,” he said. The Cavaliers’ strong home form continues, with an 8-1 record since January 23 and 18 wins in their last 24 games overall.
Donovan Mitchell added 17 points and six assists, while Evan Mobley contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Harden reached the milestone with a first-quarter free throw, finishing the game with 29,017 career points over 17 seasons. Cleveland swept the four-game season series with Philadelphia, combining for 497 points in those contests.
Philadelphia played without top scorers Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Paul George, and VJ Edgecombe, limiting their offensive output to 86.9 points per game combined. Quentin Grimes led the 76ers with 17 points, followed by Cameron Payne with 12 and Justin Edwards with 14.
Harden’s focus on leadership, consistency, and chemistry reflects Cleveland’s balanced roster and playoff aspirations. With this win, the Cavaliers remain fourth in the Eastern Conference, just one game behind New York, setting the stage for Wednesday’s rematch in Philadelphia.
