Desmond Bane played a major role in guiding Orlando to one of its most impressive wins of the season Saturday on the road against Minnesota, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports.
Determined to limit his perimeter shooting, the Timberwolves focused on defending Bane tightly along the three-point arc, holding the veteran wing to an 0-for-5 performance from long range.
That defensive approach opened opportunities elsewhere, as Bane consistently attacked off the dribble and penetrated the lane.
He converted 10 of his 12 attempts inside the arc and was perfect on 10 free-throw attempts, ending the night with a team-best 30 points in the decisive victory.
Bane acknowledged that he began the season somewhat cautiously while adjusting to his new surroundings, explaining that he tried not to disrupt the established chemistry.
“I don’t think there’s any more thinking or second-guessing what’s needed of me, what’s asked of me,” Bane said.
“I know night-in and night-out what the team needs. It’s a freeing feeling just being able to go out there and do what I do.”
