Tom Dundon is reportedly nearing completion of his purchase of the Portland Trail Blazers, with the transaction expected to close in the coming weeks.

Around the same time, Dundon has also agreed to sell a 12.5% ownership stake in the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes at a franchise valuation of $2.66 billion, according to a report from Sportico’s Scott Soshnick, Eben Novy-Williams, and Kurt Badenhausen.

Sportico notes that it is not yet known whether the timing of the Hurricanes stake sale is connected to Dundon’s pending acquisition of the Blazers.

The outlet suggests the move could indicate he is seeking additional financial flexibility or liquidity ahead of finalizing the NBA franchise purchase.
