Malevy Leons credited preparation and team support for his contributions in Golden State’s 133-112 win over Memphis. “I just play hard, trying to defend, trying to compete and rebound,” he said after collecting nine points and five rebounds.

Leons described his mindset entering the game: “I heard I was going to go in in the first, and I was just excited, ready to go. Those chances don’t come around often, and I definitely was going to grab it.”

Reflecting on the team’s fast-paced approach, he added, “I just think the pressure and keep sending guys to the glass and playing fast like wore them out in the end.”

The forward emphasized learning from his teammates and the process of adjusting to the NBA. “Just enjoying the process in a locker room with great players who help me out and support me. When the time comes, this is when it’s time to hook you,” he said.

Leons highlighted the value of his prep experience at Santa Cruz: “They play exactly the same over there. Coach Lane makes sure he teaches us the right fundamentals that translate to the next level and really prep us for that.”

He also discussed avoiding turnovers, noting, “Not necessarily true… everyone looked at the film, and you just have to be ready for the opportunities that come.”

The Warriors dominated early, building a 29-8 second-quarter run that gave them a 74-53 halftime advantage. Will Richard led the team with 21 points, Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II added 19 apiece, and Gui Santos scored 17. Eight of the nine players who saw action reached double figures.

Memphis was paced by GG Jackson with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Ty Jerome contributed 22 points and five assists. The Grizzlies have lost 12 of their last 15 games, tying for 12th place in the Western Conference with the Dallas Mavericks.

Golden State remains eighth in the West and will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, while Memphis begins a three-game road trip in Dallas on Friday.
