The Los Angeles Lakers plan to keep Rob Pelinka in charge of basketball operations, according to reporting by Dan Woike. The plan includes input from Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi, with an expanded front office expected this summer.
Pelinka’s continued role comes as the Lakers undergo a major transformation under new majority owner Mark Walter, who purchased the franchise for $10 billion from the Buss family in October 2025. Rosen, the new President of Business Operations and former Dodgers executive, is implementing a front-office structure modeled after Walter’s success in MLB.
The Lakers have already made significant business-side changes. Joey and Jesse Buss were removed from executive positions in November 2025, while longtime President of Business Operations Tim Harris announced he will step down after the 2025–26 season.
Pelinka remains at the center of basketball operations as the team navigates the 2025–26 season. The roster is led by Luka Doncic, who is averaging 32.8 points, 8.5 assists, and 7.7 rebounds per game, alongside LeBron James and Austin Reaves.
The team holds a 34-21 record, currently fifth in the West. Retaining Pelinka ensures continuity in roster management and player development, while the upcoming front-office expansion is expected to enhance analytical and operational support.
