New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown called Tuesday’s 109-94 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers “an ugly game,” highlighting both offensive and defensive struggles. “We didn’t do much right defensively. We didn’t do much right offensively. You got to give Cleveland credit,” he said.

Brown pinpointed turnovers as a major factor in the first half. “Our turnovers in that first half really put a damper on things that we were trying to do,” he said, noting that Cleveland capitalized by getting to the free throw line.

The coach stressed the team’s need to improve tempo and spacing. “One of the things we have to try to do better, especially offensively, is play with pace… we have to do a better job of getting to the corners,” Brown explained.

Defensive lapses were another concern. “Tonight was probably one of the first nights in a while that I didn’t think we were on a string defensively… when the ball moved, all five guys moved and they made us pay for it,” he said.

Brown described the third quarter as the tipping point. “Whether it was the fourth quarter or even in the half court… they scored 23 points and we scored 11. Our offense was non-existent in terms of pace and our ability to touch the paint,” he said.

He compared the effort to previous games against Chicago and Houston. “Our offense wasn’t flowing against Chicago. Our offense wasn’t flowing against Houston. We found a way to bring some sort of energy… tonight we were running through mud no matter what happened,” Brown noted.

Brown also addressed difficulties creating opportunities for Karl-Anthony Towns. “No matter what we did, either we turned the ball over or we had a tough shot… we made some play calls tonight, but we didn’t generate anything from the calls we made,” he said.

Cleveland improved to 37-22 behind Donovan Mitchell’s 23 points and James Harden’s 20, with Jarrett Allen adding 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavaliers dominated the third quarter, outscoring New York 23-11 and limiting the Knicks to just three field goals.

Brown concluded by emphasizing the team’s need to regroup for their upcoming game in Milwaukee. “Tough loss, ugly game overall, and we got to get back and figure out what we need to do to get a win on Friday,” he said, highlighting the urgency to improve pace, defensive rotations, and offensive execution.
