A Fort Bend County, Texas grand jury declined to indict former NBA guard Patrick Beverley in an assault case Monday, according to court records, effectively ending the matter.
Beverley, 37, had faced a felony charge of assault on a family or household member impeding breath or circulation following allegations that he punched and choked his teenage sister during a dispute in November.
His attorneys said the outcome confirmed their long-standing position.
“Several months ago, we said that when all the information was in – when a grand jury could hear all the facts of this case – Patrick Beverley would be cleared of all charges,” attorneys Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins told The California Post.
“That is what happened today, when a grand jury sitting in Fort Bend County no-billed Patrick, effectively ending the case.”
Court documents stated Beverley’s sister alleged he “squeezed her neck causing her to feel pain,” and later punched her “approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist.”
Police reported seeing petechiae in her eyes and “markings” on her neck upon arriving at the scene.
Beverley denied the accusations after his Nov. 14 arrest, posting on X, “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet.”
A later statement shared on social media added context.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record,” the Nov. 14 post read. “He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.
“However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Following the decision, Beverley said he was grateful for the support he received and hopes his reputation will now be restored.
Beverley played in the NBA from 2012 to 2024 and later co-hosted a podcast with Barstool Sports’ Adam Ferrone before stepping away after his arrest.
