Coby White has yet to appear in a game since joining the Charlotte Hornets at the trade deadline, but the team remains optimistic that his return could come soon as he continues recovering from a left calf strain.

According to Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer, White has made steady progress in his rehabilitation and may be able to make his debut during the current road trip.

One potential return date carries added significance, as White could suit up in Chicago, the city where he spent the first six-plus seasons of his NBA career, marking an emotional first appearance with his new team against his former one.

Head coach Charles Lee provided an encouraging update on White’s recovery, noting that the guard has begun participating in more demanding portions of team activities.

“I guess the update would be that he’s made some great strides,” Lee said.

“He’s been able to go through some contact portions of practice and during his rehab sessions. As long as he can continue to show up every day after a little bit more intensity on the court and the evaluations go well, he’s getting closer to being able to play.”
