Johni Broome sustained a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during Saturday’s G League game while playing for the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers announced in an official press release.

According to the team, Broome will meet with medical specialists to evaluate treatment options and determine the best course of action.

Meniscus injuries may be treated surgically, either by repair or by partial cartilage removal, though some cases can be managed without surgery.

His recovery timeline will depend on which approach is ultimately chosen.

The 23-year-old player built an impressive college résumé at Morehead State, where he played two seasons, and later at Auburn for three years before being selected 35th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

During his rookie campaign, however, Broome has struggled to secure consistent playing time with Philadelphia, logging just 55 minutes across 11 NBA appearances.

In the G League, Broome has played a much larger role for Delaware, averaging 21.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 26 games while playing 32.8 minutes per contest.

He has posted shooting splits of .463 from the field, .287 from three-point range, and .656 from the free-throw line.

Broome is currently on a four-year standard contract with the Sixers.

His salary for the 2026/27 season, valued at $2.15MM, is fully guaranteed, while the final two years of the deal remain non-guaranteed.
