Trade-deadline addition Kristaps Porzingis showed some expected rust in his Golden State Warriors debut on Thursday, though there were still positive signs in his performance, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.

The big man played 17 minutes in the loss and indicated afterward that he is eager to gradually increase his workload as he continues adjusting to his new team and game rhythm.

“Even tonight, I would’ve liked to go longer,” Porzingis said. “Even if I’m exhausted out there, I still want to push myself. But I know I have to take it step by step. Add a couple minutes next game hopefully.”

Porzingis is expected to see that increase soon.

As Nick Friedell reports (via Twitter), head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that the Latvian center will receive “a few more minutes” during Sunday’s matchup against Denver as the Warriors carefully ramp up his playing time.

Porzingis has played 10 seasons for 6 teams, including the Mavericks and Knicks. He has averaged 19.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in 519 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game, and has won 1 NBA championship.
