The San Antonio Spurs dethroned the Sacramento Kings 139-122 on Saturday evening for their eighth straight win on Saturday night.
Victor Wembanyama had 28 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks while De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Keldon Johnson scored 18 each for the Spurs.
On the other hand, Keegan Murray and DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 20 points each. Malik Monk scored 19, while Maxime Raynaud had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Kings lost a franchise record 16th straight game, the last two after center Domantas Sabonis and guard Zach LaVine had season-ending surgery.
Meanwhile, the Spurs played in a city the organization considers part of a megaregion it has cultivated for several years.
San Antonio scored the first 11 points of the game, setting an aggressive tone that included three blocks by Wembanyama in the first 90 seconds.
The short-handed Kings hustled their way back into the game and trailed by just one with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Despite Sacramento’s determination, which resulted in seven offensive rebounds, it was not enough against the French center, who made a three-pointer and assisted on another by Harrison Barnes, earning a 105-94 edge heading to the fourth.
The Spurs completed a 12-0 run behind Fox and Wembanyama, starting it in the fourth quarter.
Both teams will play a road game on Monday: the Kings visit Memphis, while the Spurs visit Detroit.
