With Myron Gardner moving onto the Miami Heat’s 15-man roster, Trevor Keels now becomes the team’s latest developmental focus after signing a two-way contract to fill Gardner’s former spot.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra praised Keels’ scoring ability, calling him a “sniper,” while also noting the young guard’s commitment to improving on the defensive end.
“He has made improvement, and we want to invest more resources and time into that development,” Spoelstra said, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. “(He) still has a way to go in terms of getting in Miami Heat shape, but he’s come a long way.”
Spoelstra also spoke about the team’s point guard group, explaining that while Davion Mitchell, Dru Smith, and Kasparas Jakucionis may not be headline stars, each player contributes in unique ways and plays a meaningful role within the roster.
Writing for the Sun Sentinel, Ira Winderman examined the strengths each guard brings and questioned whether there will be enough minutes available for all of them once Tyler Herro returns to the lineup.
