San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox spoke Wednesday about the team’s approach as they prepare for Thursday’s game against the Phoenix Suns.

“Every game counts a little bit more, especially when you’re talking about seeding and how close the West is. It’s going to be fun,” Fox said, via ClutchPoints, highlighting the importance of the remaining regular-season games.

The veteran point guard addressed adjustments needed as the playoffs approach, noting, “It’s definitely going to be an adjustment. Even with that, they say that they don’t, but the games are officiated a little differently, especially once you get closer to the playoffs.” He added, “I think our coaching staff has put us in a great position to not let that kind of falter the way that we play because we want to be able to be that physical team and continue to play fast and play through the whistle.”

Fox praised the Spurs’ recent stretch leading into the All-Star break, saying, “That was a stretch that we felt was really important, being able to go into All-Star break with some momentum and we did a good job at that.” He detailed the team’s success: “We did eight games. Last eight games, we went 7-1, so going into the break with that type of momentum, it’s the first time that a lot of our guys are playing meaningful basketball after the break. So, all these games mean a little bit more.”

The point guard also stressed the mental demands of the season, emphasizing, “The mental part of the game has to be there because everybody’s going through it physically. But if you can continue to keep your head in the game and stay focused throughout such a long season, that gets you through it more than just being physically ready for it.” He added optimism about the team’s preparation: “For us, I think guys are ready and I think guys are excited for it, for sure.”

Fox and Victor Wembanyama lead a Spurs team riding a six-game winning streak. Wembanyama averages 24.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks, while Fox contributes 19.4 points and 6.3 assists per game. Devin Vassell provides perimeter scoring and defense with 14.1 points per contest.

San Antonio faces the Phoenix Suns, who are managing key absences. Devin Booker leads the Suns with 25.2 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game, supported by Grayson Allen’s 17.0 points and Collin Gillespie’s 13.3 points per game at 42.3% from three. Mark Williams continues to anchor the paint with 12.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Both teams enter with contrasting form: the Suns recently fell 109-136 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the Spurs have won six straight, including victories over Golden State and the Lakers. San Antonio aims to extend its 38-16 record, while Phoenix looks to maintain a 32-23 mark and continue its season dominance over the Spurs, having won both prior meetings.
