The Portland Trail Blazers are seeking support from Oregon state lawmakers for approximately $600 million in public funding to renovate and modernize the Moda Center ahead of the team’s expected sale to Tom Dundon, according to Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report (subscription required).

The proposal comes amid increasing concern among local observers about the long-term stability of the franchise in Portland, even though NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated over the weekend that there are currently no plans to relocate any existing team.

Bill Oram of The Oregonian outlined the case for why upgrades to the arena are considered necessary, arguing that improvements would help ensure the venue remains competitive with newer NBA facilities and strengthens the franchise’s future in the city.
