Fenerbahce Istanbul has kept one of its best players for the foreseeable future with the announcement Saturday that center Jan Vesely has penned a new, three-year contract with last season’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague runner-up.

Vesely (2.10 meters, 26 years old), nicknamed “The Czech Helicopter” due to his high-flying dunks and blocks, earned All-EuroLeague First Team and January MVP honors last season, averaging 11.9 points on 62.2% two-point shooting, 6.8 rebounds and a block in 23 EuroLeague games.

He helped Fenerbahce become the first Turkish team to reach the EuroLeague title game, and also took his team to its first Final Four in 2015, too.

Vesely grew up with Snakes Ostrava of his native Czech Republic and also played for Slovan Ljubljana of Slovenia, Partizan Belgrade of Serbia, as well as for Washington and Denver of the NBA before joining Fenerbahce. Vesely helped Partizan reach its first Final Four this century in 2010, and to win the Adriatic League, Serbian League and Serbian Cup in each of his three seasons with the team. He won the Turkish League title with Fenerbahce this season and is a regular member of the Czech Republic’s national team.
