Although Ivica Zubac has rarely been used as a perimeter shooter, making just 1 of his 12 three-point attempts since entering the NBA in 2016, the newly acquired Pacers center said this week that expanding his offensive role has already been part of early conversations with head coach Rick Carlisle.
According to Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star, Carlisle has discussed the possibility of positioning Zubac more frequently in the corner and giving him chances to attempt shots from beyond the arc.
Zubac expressed confidence in his ability to develop that part of his game, explaining that the opportunity simply hadn’t existed during his time with the Clippers.
“I always thought I could shoot that shot,” Zubac said. “I obviously didn’t get a lot of chances to do it with the Clippers, but I always worked on it and wanted to shoot it but never had a chance. We’ll see how open he will be for that.
“If that’s what they want me to do, I have the rest of the season and the whole summer to work on it and be ready for next year.”
The big man has played 10 seasons for the Clippers and Lakers. He has averaged 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in 627 regular-season games.
