The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-106 on Wednesday, February 4 at Frost Bank Center, never trailing while strengthening their position near the top of the Western Conference. San Antonio improved to 34-16, while the reigning champions dropped to 40-12 after playing without most of their regular starters.
Keldon Johnson led the scoring with 25 points off the bench, providing steady offense that kept the home side in control throughout the night. Victor Wembanyama added 22 points and 14 rebounds, anchoring the interior with rim protection and second-chance opportunities.
De’Aaron Fox finished with 15 points and 10 assists, directing the pace and creating efficient looks during key stretches. Rookie forward Carter Bryant matched a season high with 11 points as the Spurs secured their second consecutive victory.
San Antonio used an early surge to establish separation, highlighted by Jordan McLaughlin’s three-pointer that capped a 12-2 run bridging the first and second quarters for a 42-26 lead. The hosts maintained spacing and ball movement, finishing with 26 assists and a 63-46 rebounding advantage.
Oklahoma City entered the matchup with only eight active players and without reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander due to an abdominal strain. The Thunder were also missing their entire regular starting lineup on the second night of a back-to-back.
Despite the absences, Kenrich Williams scored 25 points and Jaylin Williams recorded 24 points with 12 rebounds to keep the visitors competitive. Aaron Wiggins added 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting, helping the frontcourt trio combine for 69 points.
Late in the third quarter, Oklahoma City’s thin rotation was evident when the bench briefly consisted only of staff members while reserves prepared to check in. San Antonio held a 90-80 lead at that point and continued to control the tempo by attacking the paint and limiting turnovers.
The Spurs shot 45% from the field and generated 18 offensive rebounds, turning missed shots into extra possessions that offset their 60% free-throw shooting. Oklahoma City hit 19 three-pointers at a 40% clip but struggled to sustain defensive stops.
San Antonio has now beaten the Thunder four times this season, including a two-point win in the NBA Cup semifinals in December. Oklahoma City won the previous meeting 119-98 on January 13, making Wednesday’s result another shift in the season series.
The victory moved the Spurs within five games of the conference-leading Thunder, reinforcing their status as a contender built around length, rebounding, and playmaking balance. Oklahoma City has now won only three of its last seven contests as injuries continue to affect lineup consistency.
The Thunder will host Houston on Saturday, while San Antonio travels to Dallas on Thursday to continue a busy stretch against Western Conference opponents.
