The Sacramento Kings are reportedly in discussions with the Toronto Raptors regarding a potential trade centered on All-Star center Domantas Sabonis, according to Michael Scotto on FAN590 and Sportsnet. The talks could involve RJ Barrett and Ochai Agbaji heading to Sacramento.
A third team would likely be required to facilitate the deal, along with additional draft compensation, with Jakob Poeltl also potentially included in the package. Scotto emphasized that talks are still in the exploratory phase.
Sabonis, 29, is in the second year of a four-year, $186 million contract. He is averaging 15.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 18 games this season for a Kings team struggling at 12–39. The Kings are last in the Western Conference.
For Toronto, Barrett, 25, is in the third year of a four-year, $107 million deal and is averaging 18.8 points and 5.2 rebounds over 28 games. Agbaji, 25, is in the final year of a four-year, $18.7 million contract, contributing 4.3 points per game in a supporting role. Poeltl, 30, has a $78 million contract through 2026 and will start a new three-year, $84 million deal in 2027–28.
The Raptors sit fourth in the Eastern Conference at 30–21, with a solid core including Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes. Adding Sabonis would bolster their frontcourt depth and provide additional rebounding and playmaking.
Sacramento’s current frontcourt features Sabonis, Keegan Murray, and Maxime Raynaud, with Sabonis leading the team in rebounds at 11.2 per game.
Scotto noted that while the trade could be significant, both teams are evaluating the long-term implications, especially salary cap considerations and draft assets. Sacramento may view this as an opportunity to retool around its veteran backcourt, while Toronto could add a proven double-double contributor to push deeper in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
