Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee praised his team’s focus and execution after a 123-121 road win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.

“No doubt. Never worried. I trust these guys. This was a great game for us. They controlled what they can control. Love the execution down the stretch,” Lee said on his team’s composure amid a back-to-back road stretch and Brandon Miller’s foul trouble.

Lee highlighted the growth in late-game execution. “We hadn’t had a close game in a while and so it’s good to see the group be able to execute down the stretch. The ball movement was a lot better in the second half, and we found ways to get open shots.”

The coach emphasized the key plays from his rookies. “Brandon’s offensive rebound was huge at the end, and Kon’s deflection and then nailing two free throws were decisive. The whole group continues to grow, and I’m really happy with the progress we’re making.”

Lee also spoke about managing Cooper Flagg, who scored 49 points for Dallas. “For him to have 49 points, you want to try to slow him down and make someone else beat you. He gets a great deflection and his teammate comes up with a big-time steal. They’re just heady, using their instincts, and that shows what type of competitor he is.”

On Flagg’s overall performance, Lee added: “Just his ability to score in different ways. He passed and got other guys involved, and their bench had a big night. Our team became more aware of what he can do and adjusted accordingly.”

Lee credited his roster’s resilience in critical moments. “With Brandon in foul trouble and key stretches where Thompson hit threes, everybody was ready when their number was called. Moussa missed a dunk, but then hit Brandon in the corner for a three on the next play. Tons of growth throughout the game.”

The Hornets’ fifth straight win marked a milestone for the young roster. “Really proud of the group. We’re just finding ways to keep building these winning habits,” Lee said.

Knueppel’s late-game performance underscored Lee’s trust in his players. “Kon’s career-high 34 points, including the clutch free throws with 4.1 seconds left, show the mindset and preparation these guys put in. That’s why we can trust them in moments like this.”

Charlotte now improves to 21-28, hosting San Antonio on Saturday, while Dallas falls to 19-29 and travels to Houston.
