Star guard Anthony Edwards was first listed as questionable and then ultimately ruled out of Monday’s win over Golden State due to right foot injury management, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced.

Chris Hine of The Star Tribune reported that Edwards did take part in a pregame warmup, but the decision to scratch him was made not long after.

The late change appeared to catch even the coaching staff off guard.

“It was news to me, honestly,” head coach Chris Finch said following the game, via Hine on Twitter. “He had pain from the foot that’s been troubling him.”

Finch also addressed Edwards’ status for Minnesota’s upcoming back-to-back later in the week, though he did not provide clarity, with Hine noting that the coach said he wasn’t sure whether Edwards would be available for both games.
