The Milwaukee Bucks announced that Giannis Antetokounmpo is sidelined indefinitely due to a calf strain.
Antetokounmpo himself estimated that his absence could last anywhere from four to six weeks, similar to a previous stint he missed with the same issue.
“There’s really no timetable,” Doc Rivers said.
Rivers added that the organization has not discussed shutting Antetokounmpo down for the rest of the season, despite his past calf-related injuries.
“There’s no thought to that,” Rivers said. “But listen, there’s no timetable either.”
From an asset standpoint, the Bucks are set to receive the lower of their own first-round pick or the New Orleans Pelicans’ first-rounder, with New Orleans currently tied for the third-worst record in the league.
Milwaukee sits at 18-26 overall and has gone just 3-11 in games Antetokounmpo has missed.
Looking ahead, Antetokounmpo’s long-term outlook in Milwaukee, including whether a trade could materialize before the February 5 deadline or sometime during the offseason, stands as the most significant and closely watched transaction-related storyline in the NBA right now.
