Jalen Duren lauded the Detroit Pistons’ approach Sunday after their 139-116 win over the Sacramento Kings at Little Caesars Arena.
“The approach came out understanding that we had to be better,” Duren said. “Understanding the energy had to be better and I felt we came out and got the job done.”
Detroit reached the 100-point mark before the fourth quarter for the eighth time this season, fueled by aggressive play and efficient shooting.
“I think guys being aggressive,” Duren said. “Just the mindset, the energy, the assertiveness. We had a better approach than we did the last game, and that contributed to everything on both ends.”
Cade Cunningham returned from a wrist issue and posted 29 points and 11 assists, earning praise from Duren.
“He’d be all right. He does what he needs to do to get the team to win,” Duren said. “Since he’s out there, he’s going to continue to do whatever he can to make the team win.”
Duren also addressed his potential first-time All-Star candidacy, emphasizing team goals over individual accolades.
“God willing, if it happens, it’s an amazing honor, but my main goal is to win the championship and make it further in the playoffs,” he said. “Team success comes first.”
The Pistons’ coach, JB Bickerstaff, has also received recognition as an All-Star coach, and Duren credited him for Detroit’s culture.
“Coach of the year, well deserved,” Duren said. “He’s put us in position to be where we are now. He’s a part of the main culture we’ve built these last two years. He’s an amazing coach, mentor, and leader.”
Detroit’s depth stood out as Tobias Harris added 16 points and Jalen Duren contributed 18 points and seven rebounds, helping the team bounce back from a Friday loss.
“Our energy and mindset tonight were the difference,” Duren said. “Everybody came ready to play, and it showed in the scoreboard.”
The Pistons shot 55% from the field and 52% from three-point range, while Sacramento struggled to keep pace despite 19 points from Malik Monk.
Duren’s remarks underscored the team-first mentality that has propelled Detroit to an NBA-best 33-11 record.
“Team success is everything for us,” he said. “We know we have to keep getting better every day, and we’re committed to that.”
Detroit will head to Denver on Tuesday, looking to maintain momentum and continue building chemistry with Cunningham healthy.
