Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has begun taking small steps toward a return as he continues to recover from ligament damage in his left hand.

According to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com, Davis has started light on-court activity while wearing a protective glove.

Although there is still no official timetable for his return, the Mavericks expect the veteran big man to remain sidelined for several more weeks.

In a separate report, Afseth notes that Daniel Gafford is set to return Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers after missing four games due to a right ankle sprain.

The injury has been an ongoing issue for the 27-year-old throughout the 2025/26 season.

Despite Gafford’s return, Dwight Powell is expected to continue starting at center as Dallas pushes for its fifth consecutive victory, with the team taking a cautious and deliberate approach to managing its frontcourt rotation.
