The Golden State Warriors are expected to be heavily involved in any offseason trade discussions for Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Milwaukee Bucks make him available, while also monitoring the possibility of pursuing LeBron James once he becomes an unrestricted free agent on June 30, via Jake Fischer.

League sources say Golden State views either superstar as a potential franchise-altering addition.

Any skepticism about pairing James with Stephen Curry has faded in recent years, particularly after their strong chemistry during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they helped Team USA win gold.

Curry, who is under contract through the 2026/27 season, continues to perform at a high level, and the Warriors believe adding either Antetokounmpo or James could extend their championship window.

Despite those ambitions, Golden State remains unlikely to trade Jimmy Butler following his torn ACL.

Sources indicate the organization plans to support Butler through his recovery, valuing his locker room presence and overall fit with the team.

Any consideration of moving him would require a rare scenario in which a top-tier superstar specifically targeted the Warriors as a preferred destination. The team has not shown interest in trading Butler for Anthony Davis.

Realistically, Golden State does not expect a chance at Antetokounmpo or James until the offseason at the earliest.

The Warriors will not entertain any Butler-related deal unless a truly elite player pushes his way toward teaming up with Curry.

The Warriors previously explored a potential James trade ahead of the 2024 deadline, with Draymond Green initiating discussions internally and reaching out to agent Rich Paul.

Owner Joe Lacob later spoke with Jeanie Buss, who reiterated that the Los Angeles Lakers had no interest in trading James.

The forward ultimately chose to remain with the Lakers, a position confirmed by Rob Pelinka.

James is on an expiring deal after signing a one-plus-one contract with a no-trade clause in 2024, leaving his long-term future uncertain.

Head coach Steve Kerr, meanwhile, has not signed beyond this season but has remained open to staying as Curry finishes out his career.
