Jonathan Kuminga is using his renewed opportunity with the Golden State Warriors to strengthen his trade value, according to Sam Gordon of The San Francisco Chronicle.
A season-ending ACL injury to Jimmy Butler has put Kuminga back in the rotation, and he responded Tuesday with 20 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes.
League sources told Gordon that Kuminga, who requested a trade last week, remains intent on moving on. After five seasons without consistent playing time, he believes he could be more productive elsewhere as a regular starting power forward.
Gordon reports that the Sacramento Kings remain the most interested suitor, with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Chicago Bulls also viewed as potential bidders.
Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. confirmed the team is open to including future first-round picks and taking on longer contracts if the return makes sense, noting their financial flexibility beyond next season.
“There’s still time left here,” Dunleavy said. “He’s on our roster. I know the trade has been requested, but nothing is imminent and things in this league can change in a heartbeat.”
Gordon adds that Golden State is monitoring the market for a major upgrade, including stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo or rising players such as Trey Murphy III.
