Steve Kerr’s future with the Golden State Warriors remains unclear as he enters the final year of his contract without an extension.

Team sources say several assistant coaches are operating under the assumption that Kerr will not return next season, prompting some to explore other opportunities for 2026-27.

One such move already occurred when longtime assistant Chris DeMarco left the Warriors last month to become head coach of the New York Liberty.

This uncertainty comes despite the fact that Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green are all signed through the 2026-27 season, leading some to expect Kerr’s tenure would align with theirs.

The head coach has declined to comment publicly on his situation.

He currently earns $17.5 million annually, making him the NBA’s highest-paid head coach, ahead of Erik Spoelstra and Tyronn Lue.

Hired in 2014 to replace Mark Jackson, Kerr has led Golden State to four NBA championships and two additional Finals appearances, compiling a winning percentage above .640.

Most recently, Kerr guided Team USA to a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
