Klay Thompson matched his season high with six 3-pointers and scored a season-best 26 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 144-122 win over the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center on Thursday. Thompson also added six assists while helping Dallas set season highs in points and three-pointers (19).
Naji Marshall contributed 22 points, and the Mavericks played without rookie Cooper Flagg, who sat out with a left ankle sprain sustained Wednesday against Denver. Dallas shot 57% from the field and 41% from three-point range, dominating a Jazz team that allows the most points and three-pointers in the league.
Brice Sensabaugh led Utah with 27 points, while Lauri Markkanen missed his second straight game due to illness. Despite outrebounding Dallas 39-37, the Jazz shot just 49% overall and 28% from three, falling behind early and unable to keep pace in the high-scoring contest.
Thompson surpassed Damian Lillard (2,804) for fourth place on the NBA’s all-time 3-pointers list with 2,809 career makes, trailing Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Ray Allen. His 10-of-18 shooting performance highlighted Dallas’ offensive efficiency and pace throughout the game.
Other contributors for the Mavericks included Brandon Williams with 18 points, Caleb Martin with 14, and Jaden Hardy adding 19. Dallas’ balanced attack kept the Jazz from mounting any significant runs, opening up double-digit leads by the second quarter and maintaining control the rest of the way.
The win improves Dallas to 16-26, still near the bottom of the Western Conference, while Utah falls to 14-27. Both teams will meet again in Dallas on Saturday in a chance for the Jazz to seek revenge and the Mavericks to continue their scoring surge.
