Jalen Brunson’s night ended almost as soon as it began, as the New York Knicks guard suffered a right ankle sprain in the opening quarter of a 112–101 loss to the Sacramento Kings and was unable to return.
The team did not provide an immediate update on his condition following the game, leaving his availability moving forward uncertain.
Brunson went down with 7:01 left in the first quarter and was clearly uncomfortable as he made his way off the floor.
The injury was to the same right ankle that caused him to miss two games earlier this season, adding another layer of concern for New York as it navigates a demanding stretch of the schedule.
After Brunson exited, the Knicks struggled to find rhythm or urgency.
Head coach Mike Brown was blunt when assessing how the team handled the sudden setback, saying the group failed to rise to the moment and never really found its footing once their floor leader was gone.
New York will have little time to regroup, as the Knicks are scheduled to face the Golden State Warriors on Friday.
Brunson’s status for that matchup remains unclear, and his absence would loom large given his central role in the team’s offense and late-game execution.
