Cleveland’s only in-season move last year was acquiring forward De’Andre Hunter, but his slow start to the 2025/26 season has reopened the possibility of another midyear adjustment.
According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, Hunter’s lack of impact has drawn attention internally, even if the organization isn’t ready to make a quick call.
Fedor reports the Cavaliers have not engaged in serious trade discussions so far, despite receiving inquiries, including at least one offer involving Hunter.
The team still believes in its core and wants to see what the roster looks like at full strength. As one source put it, “They feel they haven’t had a fair look yet.”
Injuries continue to complicate that evaluation. Max Strus remains out for several more weeks, Dean Wade is managing a nagging knee issue despite a clean MRI, and Hunter has struggled to find consistency.
Those factors could eventually push Cleveland to explore the market as the deadline nears. One rival executive noted, “At some point, patience meets reality.”
After Hunter posted just two points in Monday’s loss to Utah, head coach Kenny Atkinson acknowledged the forward’s struggles while staying supportive.
“He’s in a rough stretch, plain and simple,” Atkinson said. “That happens. Our job is to stick with him, keep him involved, and help him through it. He’s better than this, and I expect him to show it.”
