Despite early speculation, neither the Minnesota Timberwolves nor the Sacramento Kings are expected to seriously pursue Ja Morant, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Fischer notes that while the Memphis Grizzlies guard’s availability has sparked leaguewide curiosity, those two teams are unlikely to move beyond surface-level interest.

Minnesota has been exploring point guard upgrades, but its focus is on players with manageable contracts, making Morant’s maximum deal through 2027–28 a poor fit.

Sacramento’s reluctance is rooted in philosophy as much as finances, as Morant does not align with general manager Scott Perry’s emphasis on size, defense, physicality, and professionalism.

That same resistance to long-term salary has also stalled trade momentum with the Toronto Raptors involving Domantas Sabonis, with the Kings uninterested in taking on the multi-year deals of Immanuel Quickley or Jakob Poeltl.
