Looking ahead at Toronto’s most realistic paths, Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca suggests the organization’s immediate focus is financial flexibility, with dipping under the luxury tax threshold viewed internally as an important objective.
In that context, Lewenberg notes he continues to hear Ochai Agbaji mentioned as a possible contract the team could look to move primarily for cost-saving reasons, even while acknowledging that Toronto would almost certainly need to include additional incentive, such as a draft asset, to make that kind of transaction workable.
When it comes to potential reinforcements in the frontcourt, Lewenberg flags Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks and Goga Bitadze of the Orlando Magic as names worth monitoring, framing them more as situational options than firm targets.
At the same time, he emphasizes that the Raptors are encouraged by what they’ve seen from Collin Murray-Boyles and are mindful not to clog the developmental runway of the young big, whose growth they see as a meaningful part of their longer-term plan.
Stepping back from individual names, Lewenberg’s broader takeaway is one of patience.
Rather than forcing a consequential move before the February 5 trade deadline, he believes Toronto is more inclined to let the season play out and revisit larger-scale roster changes once the offseason arrives, when flexibility, leverage, and optionality are likely to be greater.
