Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie’s position is secure despite the team’s 8-29 record, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported. Christie is in the first year of a three-year deal, with the final season as a team option, marking a trial period for the first-time head coach.
Team general manager Scott Perry emphasized the organization’s support, saying, “He’s got an organization that’s behind him and believes that he will be there to help push us through and turn the corner.” League sources confirmed that Christie’s job is safe, even amid the team’s ongoing struggles in the Western Conference.
The Kings are scoring 109.9 points per game while allowing 121.6, giving them a -11.7 point differential, the worst in the league. Zach LaVine leads Sacramento with 20.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, shooting 48.4% from the field and 38.6% from three in 25 games.
DeMar DeRozan is contributing 18.4 points and 3.4 assists, while Domantas Sabonis averages 17.2 points and 12.3 rebounds despite playing only 11 games. Keegan Murray adds 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds, complementing the veteran core. Russell Westbrook provides 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per contest.
Sacramento’s supporting cast includes Dennis Schroder (12.9 points, 5.8 assists), Malik Monk (11.4 points), and Maxime Raynaud (10.5 points, 6.4 rebounds). The team has struggled to maintain consistency, ranking 14th in the Western Conference standings.
Despite the disappointing record, Christie’s first-year trial is seen as part of a larger rebuilding plan, with ownership prioritizing development and roster continuity over immediate results. Sources indicate that the organization expects the team to gradually improve as the season progresses.
